Promotion Sunday August 24th

Children's ministry promotion Sunday will be held on August 24th at 9:00 a.m. Students will moving up to their new classes on this day. Ceremony will take place in the children's wing.

August Reach Week August 24th - 30th

Ice-cold bottled water on a hot summer day; now that sounds refreshing!

For our August REACH Event, the Community Church is going to “hit the streets” on Saturday, August 30^th, to refresh our neighbors with FREE ice-cold bottled water.

Several teams will strategically position themselves at high-volume intersections in Waldorf to give out FREE ice-cold bottled water to motorists stopped at traffic lights.

Our goal is to REACH approximately 1000 people! You can help make this REACH Event successful in any of the following ways:

Buy cases of bottled water;
Loan us your coolers and buckets;
Volunteer the use of your truck/van or other large-capacity vehicle;
Make a monetary contribution to the REACH Week fund; or
Join in the fun of giving out FREE ice-cold bottles of water.

We need the cases of water, coolers, and buckets to be brought to church Sunday, August 24^th.

Individuals who volunteer their vehicles will need to pick up the water and coolers on the 24^th, take them home, and store the water in a cool place. On Friday, August 29^th, they will ice down the water in the coolers. On Saturday, August 30^th, they will bring the iced water bottles in the coolers for the REACH Event.

If you choose to support REACH Week by making a monetary contribution that will help to purchase any water or ice that is still needed.

Your safety is very important! We will be working in the medians along busy streets. We ask that only high-school aged youth and older participate in handing out the water bottles.

We will meet at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30^th, in the Waldorf Market Place parking lot, near the Safeway, on the end of the parking lot close to Starbucks. There we will form teams, go over some instructions, and disperse to assigned intersections. At 1:00 pm, the teams will return to the same parking lot to take stock and gather for some lunch at Noodles and Company.

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

We are going to conclude our Connect: Prayer Series with our annual 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting beginning Sunday September 7^th. Begin preparing now by thinking about what you would like to sacrifice (ex. coffee, soda, TV, sweets, etc.) for the 21 days and what you will focus on in prayer. With us all fasting and praying together we trust that we will see the power of God move in us, in the church and in the community.

Renew Women’s Book Club

A unique Christian Women's Book Club meeting monthly. Each month we pick a new Christian-themed book ranging from fiction to biographies to spiritual growth, and more. Jump in anytime and enjoy light-hearted fellowship.

Live Back to School Kick Off
Calling all youth-6th through 12th grade. Live will have our annual back to school kickoff on September 8th 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. If you like to eat, play games and win prizes, this is the time for you. You are encouraged to bring your friends and find out what we have planned for the upcoming year. We'll see you there!!!

Are you Interested in Being Baptized?

Baptism is one of the most powerful things a Christian can do and an outdoor lake makes a beautiful setting for such a special commitment. If you are interested in being baptized at our upcoming Baptism at the Lake then sign up for our upcoming Baptism Class by filling out your personal information and checking “Believer Baptism” on the front of your communication card. We will get you information on the upcoming class on September 11^th as well as the baptism service on September 14th.

Annual Baptism Picnic at the Lake

We will be holding our annual Baptism Picnic at the Lake Sunday September 14th at the Simon Farm in North Waldorf from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch, swim, fish, and enjoy a powerful and uplifting outdoor baptism worship service. Mark your calendars now so you don’t miss this life changing experience for the whole family. Directions will be made available.

Building A Successful Step Family Conference
This is a practical and humorous conference you won't want to miss. Designed for step family couples, pre-marriage couples, single parents, dating couples. Childcare is available. Registration forms and more information are available at the welcome tables and available at www.newlifelaplata.org.

Vine Community Membership Class

Our upcoming Vine Community Membership Class on Sunday September 21st. The class is an informal time at Pastor James and Katie’s house where you will learn about The Vine Community Church. You will be encouraged to ask and discuss any questions that you may have. Pastor James would welcome anyone interested in learning more about our church. The next class is Sunday, September 21st from 2:00 – 6:00 PM. If you are interested in attending please fill out a communication card letting us know of your interest and we will mark you down. Directions will be available closer to the class.

June Reach Week: Breakfast for Commuters

In January of this year we connected with commuters by helping them stay warm at the commuter bus stops. Now we want to further connect with them by providing them with a small pre-wrapped breakfast food item.

There are 3 ways you can help!
1. You can sponsor breakfast snacks by marking a donation "Reach Week" on the missions line of your tithing envelope. For every $1 that you give we will be able to connect with 2 people.
2. You can help us put the snacks together.
3. You can help pass out the snacks in the morning at the bus stops.

If you would like to help in the 2nd or 3rd way please join us this Sunday, June 29th, at 2:00 PM at the Moyer’s home in Waldorf. We will attach communication cards to each breakfast food item, choose partners, and decide upon times and locations for the actual outreach to take place.

This is a great, easy way to REACH out to our community to show them God’s love in a very practical way. No previous experience required!

Youth Mission Trip to New Orleans

Catherine Foundation Community Service Project Tomorrow

This month our church will be helping the Catherine Foundation Crisis Pregnancy Center located 3065 Old Washington Rd on Route 925 near the intersection of Route 5 in Waldorf. Please join us tomorrow Saturday May 31st from 9am to noon for on site clean up of their facility. Bring your gloves, heavy metal rakes, or your truck to take stuff to the dump if you have them. It will be exciting to bless them in this way so that they can remain focused on their work of helping women in crisis moments.

You can also help by donating newborn size diapers and new premie baby clothes, baby shampoo and lotion. These items will be collected on Saturday and one more week at the church and will then be given to the Catherine Foundation as baby shower gifts!

How exciting it is to make a difference in the community - we'll see you tomorrow.

Conference Overview

We had a great Annual Church Conference that was well attended and filled with productive questions, discussion and commitments. Donna Harris shared her report which celebrated her volunteer base, explained the transition from Children’s Ministry to Youth Ministry and highlighted this year’s commitment of “quality not quantity in regards to programming. Pastor James also shared his report emphasizing this next year’s goal to achieve these things: 1. Establish prayer support, 2. Secure financial strength, 3. Develop our connection with the community, 4. Define “What we do” as a church and 5. Transition from a “Welcoming” church to a “Connecting” church through an emphasis of small groups. In terms of business the members resoundingly approved that the proposed Operating Budget and list of Advisory Team Members be forwarded on to our District Leadership for approval. Below are some ongoing commitments for the coming year that you join in.

This is how you can be a part…

“Partners In Prayer” - Our goal for this next year is to have at least 50 people committed to praying for the church 5 days a week each week for 1 year. At the meeting 16 people committed and if you are interested in becoming a prayer partner you can fill out the Prayer Pledge Card in your bulletin and drop it in the offering plate or Communication Card Box. There are Prayer Bookmarks available at the back tables for you to use as a guide when you pray.

“A Ministry Giving Opportunity” – An opportunity has been presented for those who feel that God is calling them to give sacrificially above their regular tithe to help us as a church move to the next level in ministry. The goal for this to happen was an additional $10,000 of ministry support. Immediately we collected gifts and pledges in the amount of $4,600 bringing us nearly half way there! Praise the Lord! If you are interested in helping us reach our ministry goal fill out the Ministry Giving Pledge Card recording your donation, placing it in the offering plate as it goes by. Praise the Lord for what he has already done and what he will continue to do here at the Vine.

The Vine CIA Project Highlighted in Newspaper

Our church group was highlighted in this week's Maryland Independent write up on the Christmas in April project. There was also a photo including some of our volunteers as well. We had a great turn out, a great time, and accomplished a lot. It was clear that Mr. Jameson was touched by the service.

The Vine Community Church will be holding its Local Church Conference Sunday afternoon, April 27th, at 3:00 p.m. in the North Point High School Auditorium. After morning service, we encourage everyone to go out to eat together at 3 Brother’s pizza to help support the Youth mission team. At 3:00, please return to North Point for our meeting. During this meeting you will hear the Pastors’ yearly reports, be presented with the church budget as well as the proposed list of Advisory Team leaders for the following church year. This is a great time to get the inside scoop on where the church is heading as well as ask any questions you may have. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate – church members will be allowed to vote.

Christmas In April THIS SATURDAY

Join the church Saturday, April 26th as we participate in the Charles County Christmas in April program. Every year organizations throughout the community commit to fixing up the home of someone in need. For the second year The Vine Community Church is participating by taking on a home of our own. It is always a blessing to meet, serve, and minister to the homeowner while working to improve their quality of living. Meet us at the house located at 9698 Kline Dr. in La Plata just off Washington Avenue from 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. followed by a catered meal at the County Fairgrounds. There are projects from cleaning, painting, and yard work all the way to heavy construction. There is a job for everyone. Only requirements are that you are above the age of 14. Parent’s signatures are required for teenagers 14-18 years old. Be sure to set aside Saturday, April 26th for one of our most exciting service projects of the year!

Many people have asked for the first message in the Family Values Series titled Family Defined. Well it has now been posted on the church website for you to listen to, download, or for podcast. The church website is www.thevine-church.net

To Download - go to the Resources/Pastor's Message page and then right click where it says Download Now and select Save Link As... or Save Target As... and select the destination you want to save the audio file to. You can then use the audio file to play on your computer, e-mail to someone, or burn to a CD to listen to in the car.

To Podcast - go to the Resources/Podcast page which will bring up ITunes giving you the option to subscribe to the podcast with messages being added as they become available.

You can learn to use these resources in case you miss a message or would like to share a message with someone else.

Pastor James has been asked to speak at In His Presence Worship Tabernacle tomorrow (Wednesday) night March 26th at 7:30pm for their 3rd Anniversary Worship Celebration. Their congregation has invited us to come and celebrate with them as well as celebrate our fellowship and support of each others work in the community. It is an honor to be embraced by another church congregation in this way and I would encourage all who could attend to join Pastor James for this Special Worship Celebration. Bring work gloves or latex gloves if you can, and we will supply the trash bags. Plan to meet in the usual North Point parking lot at 10:00am and we will work until 12:00pm. Afterwards everyone is invited to meet in town for some food and fellowship.

Pastor James has been meeting with Pastor Tucker of In His Presence Worship Tabernacle located in the White Plains Shopping Center off of Rt. 301 next to Laredo’s Mexican Restaurant and has been asked to speak at their 3^rd Anniversary Worship Celebration Wednesday Night March 26^th beginning at 7:30pm.
